Today was such a fun day! Our high school affinity advisory group traveled to CSD elementary school with two therapy dogs in tow - Eli and Daisy. We had the opportunity to visit the classrooms of Diana Hosse (4th), Erica Whitley (5th), Amy Teckenbrock (4th), Beth Garren (5th), Libby Christian (3rd), Kelly Sapp (3rd), and Danielle Walker (4th). During our visit, students learned about what therapy dogs do and how they bring comfort and peace to people by simply being in their presence. Some of the people Eli and Daisy regularly help are veterans, local university students before exams, early readers, and hospital patients, just to name a few.
In addition to learning about Eli and Daisy, the students wrote creative stories about the dogs, read to them, and were able to pet and hug the furry guests (the favorite activity of the day). By the end of the morning we left the elementary school a bit tired, but excited by all the joy the dogs shared with the students they met! We cannot wait to visit again at the end of September! A special thank you to Ms. Leslie, Ms. Joy, Liz Gilbert, Heather Roberts, all of the partnering teachers and assistants, and of course Eli and Daisy for helping to make today such a success!
Apologies for such small photos. Will work on larger ones next visit!
